Most property inspections are straightforward, but it's sensible to take a few precautions when inviting people into your home.
- Have someone with you: Where possible, have a friend or family member present, particularly for private inspections.
- Confirm visitor details: Ask for the buyer's name and contact details before the inspection or when they arrive. For private inspections, you may also choose to confirm their identity.
- Speak before they arrive: A quick phone conversation can help confirm who is attending and what they're looking for.
- Secure valuables: Put away jewellery, cash, medication, personal documents, spare keys and other valuable items.
- Don't leave buyers unattended: Allow buyers space to look around, but remain aware of where visitors are in the property.
- Protect your privacy: Avoid discussing when the property will be unattended or sharing unnecessary personal information.
- Trust your judgement: If something doesn't feel right, don't proceed with the inspection. Reschedule for when someone else can be present if necessary.
Your personal contact details are not publicly displayed on the property advertisement. You can also choose whether to display the property's full street address or advertise by suburb only.
