Negotiating directly with a buyer can be straightforward if you know what you want before discussions begin.
- Know your position: Decide on your preferred price, acceptable settlement terms and how much flexibility you have before negotiating.
- Understand the buyer: Ask about their finance, preferred settlement date and any conditions attached to their offer.
- Stay objective: Don't feel pressured to answer immediately. It's fine to consider an offer before responding.
- Look beyond price: Settlement timing, deposit, finance and other conditions can all affect how attractive an offer is.
- Keep offers in writing: No Agent Property provides a Property Offer Form so buyers can submit their offer and proposed terms clearly.
- Counter-offer when appropriate: You don't have to accept the first offer. You can reject it or negotiate the price and terms until both parties reach an agreement.
Once you're ready to proceed, speak with your solicitor or conveyancer before formally committing to the sale so the agreed price and terms can be handled correctly through the contract process.
